GREEN FESTIVAL RETURNS TO D.C. FOR SIXTH ANNUAL EVENT
Hola from Huanchaco, on the North Coast of Peru. It feels good to get out of a really big city like Lima. Lima, like Atlanta, Georgia kept expanding outward even upon the surrounding moutains. The bus ride from Lima to Trujillo took about 8 hours. Along the way we passed little pueblo houses and sprawling agricultural fields of strawberries and other vegetables I didnt recognize. There were big black chicken houses very close to the ocean. The landscape I would describe as somewhere between desert and temperate.
The CSBA met at Boordy Vineyards recently for a night of discussion featuring Renee Catacalos, editor of the magazine Edible Chesapeake and a group of local farmers.
The night was educational and appetizing with food provided by Atwaters and wine provided by Boordy. Not to mention the chocolates from Chocolaterra. Bobby Prigel (Bellvalle Farm), Joan Norman (One Straw Farm), and Rob Deford (Boordy Vineyards) discussed the struggles, rewards, and the future of small family farms in Maryland.
Greetings from Lima, Peru. It is my first day here and after a long flight from Baltimore Washington International, I decided to sleep for most of the day. It felt good to be in an entirely new location, where the everything looks different. The billboards show Peruvians enjoying drinks I have never tasted. The drivers raced through streetlights that flashed yellow and red.
