A recent plan by the U.S. Border Patrol to reduce smuggling and illegal immigration across the border from Mexico is to remove all plants along the border to increase visibility. Apparently, the border along the Rio Grande River is currently vegetated with carrizo cane (Arundo donax), an invasive exotic that spreads quickly and grows to an average of 18 feet tall.
