Road Blocks, Mountains, and Farms

Greetings, Its been a while since I have checked in, but I have been doing a bit of moving. I left my temporary home in Ayacucho and headed by bus towards Cusco, Peru.  The bus ride took about a day, partially because people along the way set up a roadblock. The roadblock was set up by local Peruvians in order to make a point about their dislike for the government. The twenty protesters set up boulders in the middle of the road and then marched together holding a flag.

The Beauty of Reclaimed Wood

I recently reclaimed some old wood that came from a horse barn and created a table for my sister and her husband as a wedding gift. The wood is poplar and cedar. This is just one example of the infinite possibilities when using discarded resources.

The New Farm Incubator Concept

The name itself describes the idea. To create a system that fosters and grows new farms/ farmers. Recently a group met in Montgomery County, Md to discuss what would be needed to start such a program. There where representatives from Whole Foods, the county council, the parks service,  and local farm operations as well as a group of aspiring farmers. The purpose of the focus group was to determine what would be needed in order to best fuel the growth of localized food production through a government sponsored incubator program.
